There’s something about motherhood that can make you feel like your body belongs to everyone but you. Between the kids, the schedules, the laundry, the snacks, the appointments, the work, the mental load, and all the tiny things no one else seems to notice, it’s easy to look up one day and realize you don’t feel fully connected to yourself anymore.
And if that hit a little close to home, I want you to know you’re not alone.
So many women come into my Manchester, NH boudoir studio carrying that exact feeling. They love their families. They love their kids. They wouldn’t trade their life for anything.
But somewhere along the way, they stopped feeling like themselves.
Not completely. Not forever. Just quietly.
Maybe getting dressed started to feel frustrating. Maybe intimacy started to feel different. Maybe you look at old photos and think, “I used to know her.” Maybe your body changed after babies, stress, aging, or years of putting everyone else first, and now you’re not quite sure how to feel at home in it.
That doesn’t mean you’re broken.
It means you’re human.
Motherhood changes more than your schedule
People talk a lot about how motherhood changes your body, but they don’t always talk about how much it changes your sense of ownership over yourself.
Your time changes.
Your energy changes.
Your body changes.
Your priorities change.
And before you know it, your needs become the thing that gets pushed to the bottom of the list over and over again.
You tell yourself you’ll do something for yourself later. When the kids are older. When your body looks different. When life slows down. When you feel more confident. When you have more time.
But later has a sneaky way of staying just out of reach.
That’s why boudoir after motherhood can feel so emotional. It’s not just about putting on lingerie or taking pretty photos. It’s about giving yourself a space where you are not responsible for everyone else for a few hours.
You get to be guided.
You get to be cared for.
You get to be seen.
And for a lot of moms, that alone is powerful.
You don’t have to feel confident before you book
One of the biggest misconceptions about boudoir is that you have to already feel confident before you do it.
You don’t.
Most women do not walk into my studio feeling fearless. Most are nervous. Some are excited and terrified at the same time. Some have spent weeks wondering if they should wait until they lose weight. Some worry they’ll look awkward. Some tell me they have no idea how to be sexy anymore.
That’s completely normal.
Confidence is not a requirement here. It’s usually the result.
My job is not to expect you to show up knowing what to do. My job is to guide you through the whole experience. I pose you from your fingers to your toes. I help with facial expressions, breathing, outfit details, hair, tags, angles, and all the little things you would never think about on your own.
You do not need modeling experience.
You do not need to know your angles.
You do not need to perform.
You just need to show up as you are, and let yourself be supported.
Your body does not need to go back
After motherhood, it can be so easy to measure your body against who you used to be.
Your before body.
Your younger body.
Your pre baby body.
Your “when I had more time to work out” body.
But your body is not a project you have to complete before it deserves kindness.
It has carried you through real life. It has held stress, love, exhaustion, change, grief, joy, and everything in between. It may look different now, but different does not mean less beautiful.
Boudoir is not about pretending your body has not changed. It’s about seeing the version of you that exists right now with more softness.
Not someday.
Not ten pounds from now.
Not when you feel perfectly ready.
Now.
Because this version of you is still worthy of being photographed. Still worthy of feeling beautiful. Still worthy of taking up space.
What the Wander in Lace experience feels like
At Wander in Lace, your session is designed to feel guided, private, and supportive from start to finish.
Every session includes professional hair and makeup, wardrobe guidance, access to the client closet, expert posing, a 4 hour studio experience, snacks and drinks, and a same day image reveal where you get to see your photos before you leave.
The studio is located in Manchester, New Hampshire, inside the Waumbec Mill buildings. It’s private, moody, warm, and designed to help you settle in.
You can bring your own outfits, use pieces from the client closet, shop from the boutique, or mix everything together. The closet includes sizes XXS to 4XL, because every woman deserves options that feel good on her body. And if lingerie doesn’t feel like you, that’s okay too.
Boudoir can be a bodysuit, a robe, a sweater, a button up shirt, a sheet, a dress, or something simple that makes you feel like yourself. The point is not to dress like someone else. The point is to find what helps you feel comfortable, confident, and connected.
Privacy is always your choice
A lot of moms worry about privacy, and I get it.
You might wonder who sees the photos. You might worry about images being online. You might feel excited about the idea of boudoir but nervous about anyone else knowing.
Your images are not shared without your permission.
You choose whether all, some, or none of your photos are shared. That is completely up to you. Some clients love sharing their images because they feel proud and powerful. Some keep everything private. Both choices are valid.
This experience is for you first.
The shift usually happens slowly
The moment of reconnection is not always dramatic.
Sometimes it starts when you sit in the makeup chair and realize you haven’t had someone take care of you in a long time.
Sometimes it happens when you put on the first outfit and think, “Okay, maybe I can do this.”
Sometimes it happens halfway through the session when you stop overthinking and start laughing.
Sometimes it happens during the reveal, when you see an image of yourself and realize you are looking at your body with less criticism than usual.
That shift matters.
Because for so many women, boudoir becomes proof that they were still in there.
Under the exhaustion.
Under the mom guilt.
Under the old stories.
Under the years of waiting to feel ready.
What other women have said
One recent client said that everything felt so seamless from the first email to arriving at the studio that “now it feels so silly I was nervous.”
I love that because it’s exactly what I want for you.
Not that you never feel nervous.
But that you feel supported enough to move through the nerves.
That you can walk into the studio unsure and still leave feeling proud of yourself.
That you can see your photos and think, “Oh. There I am.”
You are allowed to choose yourself again
If you’re a mom who feels disconnected from your body, your confidence, your sensuality, or your sense of self, I want you to hear this clearly.
You are not selfish for wanting something that is just for you.
You are not vain for wanting to feel beautiful.
You are not ridiculous for wanting to remember who you are outside of what you do for everyone else.
You’re allowed to have a body that has changed.
You’re allowed to feel nervous.
You’re allowed to want more than survival mode.
And you’re allowed to let this be one of the ways you come back to yourself.
If you’re curious about what a boudoir session could look like, the Boudoir Experience Guide is a gentle place to start. You can read through the process, see what’s included, and get a feel for the Wander in Lace experience before you ever have to make a decision.
And if you’d rather talk through your questions personally, you can always reach out. I’m happy to walk you through it on a complimentary consultation call.
You don’t have to know exactly how you’ll feel on the other side.
You just have to be willing to believe that this version of you is worth seeing.
